New Long Wavelength Type NIR Mini-Spectrometer Provides Higher Sensitivity
22 Jul 2010: The newest member of Hamamatsu's TG series of mini-spectrometers is now available. The C11118GA TG NIR spectrometer module expands on the existing Hamamatsu range and adopts a high sensitivity, low noise InGaAs image sensor, specially selected to match the optical arrangement. The C11118GA is optimised for NIR operation and works in the 0.9 µm to 2.55 µm waveband.

Analysis of Samples from the Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill by GCxGC-TOFMS
20 Jul 2010: The recent oil spill off the coast of Louisiana, in the Gulf of Mexico, is the largest oil spill in US history. The ability to identify the chemical make-up oil samples from this spill will be an important tool utilized by those responding to this event. This application note demonstrates the ability of LECO's Pegasus 4D GCxGC-TOFMS system to identify a large number of components in a single analysis.

New Refractive Index Detection Instrument from Wyatt Provides Greater Dynamic Range
16 Jul 2010: The new Optilab® T-rEX™ Refractive Index (RI) detection instrument from Wyatt Technology has 256 times the detection power and up to 50 times the dynamic range compared to other RI detectors. It also has the unique ability to measure both large and small signals within the same data run.

New Service for High Quality Mass Spec Standards Generation
15 Jul 2010: AMSBIO announces a new service generating high quality Mass Spectrometry (MS) standards for over 5,000 human proteins. Produced in human HEK293T cells and labeled with [U- 13C6, 15N4]-L-Arginine and [U- 13C6, 15N2]-L-Lysine, the full length proteins with appropriate post-translational modifications are the best choice for accurate identification and quantification of protein biomarkers.

Analysis of Triazine Herbicides in Water Using LC-MS/MS and TraceFinder Software
12 Jul 2010: In this application note, TraceFinder software was used in conjunction with an online preconcentration system, EQuan™, for the robust and reproducible analysis of large volumes of drinking water. Triazines were quantitated at the sub-ppt level, and several commercial bottled drinking water samples and one sugar-free soda sample were analyzed for the presence of triazines.

Accurately Quantify PAHs Down to 5 pg On-Column
12 Jul 2010: Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are common environmental pollutants, affecting air, water, and soil quality. This application note presents the Rxi®-5Sil MS column and optimized temperature program as an excellent solution to the challenges posed by SIM PAH analyses. This GC/MS SIM analysis allows for a very broad calibration range, in this case 2000-fold from 5pg to 10ng while maintaining exceptional linearity.

Detecting Trace Levels of Mercury Using Atom Fluorescence Spectrometry (AFS)
12 Jul 2010: This application note discusses the detection of Mercury within a waste treatment plant using mercur Duo fluorescence technology. By adjusting the equipment sensitivity an optimum measuring range can be configured to carry out stable and efficient detection with minimal sample dilution and the possibility of introducing automation and autosamplers.
Analytik Jena
Detect and Analyse Multiple Proteins on Single Blot using New Imaging System from UVP
09 Jul 2010: The BioSpectrum® Imaging System from UVP is designed for multiple imaging applications, supplying a full range of wavelengths for excitation and enabling high resolution image capture through the use of cooled CCD camera and low light lenses.
